Why God Won't Deliver You From Addiction

You’ve thrown yourself face-down on the altar too many times to remember. You’ve been to Christian counseling. You’ve prayed and read your Bible tirelessly. You’ve exercised every ounce of faith you can muster. You have literally cried out in desperation for Him to deliver you from the chains of addiction—but nothing happened. God did not deliver you. Here's why

He won't deliver you from addiction because (in the form of a syllogism):

  1. All addictions are sin.
  2. Jesus delivered all believers from sin.
  3. All believers are delivered from addiction.

We have all heard one or two stories of a miraculous deliverance. God can deliver anyone from any addiction anytime He wants—but He usually does not—because He already has.

If you’re seeking divine deliverance from addiction you are actually seeking deliverance from habitual sin. When you do this, Jesus looks back at you from the Cross and asks, “What do you think I did for you 2000 years ago?”.

Understanding this marvelous truth is the first step to true and lasting freedom from addiction.

In this short video clip taken from The Breaking the Chains Seminar, I discuss why the probability is so high that God will not miraculously deliver Christians from addiction, despite their sincere and earnest desire.

  1. So how do you think this will help addicted people? I now that Jesus delivered me from sin 2000 years ago, but I'm still dying despite being a real christian and it's completely impossible to stop repeting that sin. Not only that, but I started to have very bad psychological problems because of that, I've gone throught few severe depressions and feel intense emotional pain with no reason almost from morning to night, not being able to study and work normally. I feel dead inside and everything in this world feels dead to me. And now the cherry on top: I didn't start sinning carelessly or because I loved the sin, but because I simply didn't have a chance to now that that action is sinful. And when I did learn that it was a sin, I immediately repented and did much more than I could imagine to stop sinning. I didn't have any spiritual side effects back then, but I prayed for deliverance because I knew that consequences will follow. I said "If You don't provide or show a way out of it and bad things will happen, I will say that I was crying for help when none of them happened yet".
So what the value or use of that 2000-years-ago deliverence is, in your opinion? Death of those, who loved and love Jesus and truth with all their hearts?

  2. You would be most greatly helped by taking the entire seminar, 100% free. All videos, the workbook, the Encourager's manual (very important to have an Encourager-see the workbook instructions), are all free to view and download. Just go to the seminar page on this website and jump in.

For anything else, please let me know what you need and I'll do my best to help. But a serious study of the biblical principles of freedom in Christ in the seminar are essential to finding true and lasting freedom from addiction. Don't let the Devil in your head convince you otherwise.

Remember, Satan executes his agenda three ways: Deception, Temptation, and Accusation. Most folks forget about the accusation part, but he is the accuser of the brethren (Rev. 12:10). So when you find yourself thinking negative and defeatist thoughts about yourself, just remember where that comes from.

The workbook contains a long list of your true identity, who you are in Christ. It's a list worth memorizing as much of as you can. We are all living according to what we believe. If we have a wrong belief about ourselves, it will affect the way we live.

    Your friend,

    Paul
